Sorrowful Mysteries

The Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary walk with Jesus through His Passion: the Agony in the Garden, the Scourging at the Pillar, the Crowning with Thorns, the Carrying of the Cross, and the Crucifixion. Meditating on them helps us understand the cost of our redemption and unite our own sufferings to Christ's, alongside Our Lady who stood at the foot of the Cross.

They are traditionally prayed on Tuesdays and Fridays, and on the Sundays of Lent. They are also a comforting set to pray in times of illness or grief, or for someone who is suffering. For each mystery, announce it, pray one Our Father, ten Hail Marys, and a Glory Be, and reflect on the scene and the fruit listed below.

The Sorrowful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary: 1. The Agony in the Garden — Fruit of the Mystery: True Contrition. 2. The Scourging at the Pillar — Fruit of the Mystery: Purity. 3. The Crowning with Thorns — Fruit of the Mystery: Moral Courage. 4. The Carrying of the Cross — Fruit of the Mystery: Patience. 5. The Crucifixion — Fruit of the Mystery: Final Perseverance. Pray each decade with an Our Father, ten Hail Marys, and a Glory Be, meditating on the Passion of Our Lord.
