Prayer When You Feel Lonely

2 min read

Loneliness can come after a move, a breakup, the death of a spouse, the children leaving home, or simply in a crowded life where no one seems to really know us. Jesus Himself knew it in the Garden of Gethsemane, when His friends fell asleep. This original prayer is for anyone who feels alone, especially on long Sunday afternoons and quiet evenings. You are not forgotten.

The Prayer

Lord Jesus, in the Garden You asked Your friends to stay awake with You, and they fell asleep. You know what it is to feel alone. So I come to You with my loneliness, and I ask You to stay with me. Fill the empty places in my heart with Your presence. Remind me that I am never truly alone: You are with me always, the Father sees me, and the Holy Spirit dwells within me. Your Mother, the angels, and the saints are my family. Open my eyes to the people around me who may be lonely too. Give me courage to reach out: to call, to visit, to say yes to an invitation, to join a parish group, to sit with someone new after Mass. Lead me to good and faithful friends. When the evenings are long, be my companion. When the silence is heavy, speak to my heart. Stay with me, Lord, for it is toward evening. Amen.

Try a visit to the Blessed Sacrament this week. Sit with Jesus for ten minutes and tell Him about your day, as you would tell a friend.
