Prayer to the Infant Jesus of Prague
Devotion to the Infant Jesus of Prague centers on a small wax statue of the Christ Child that was given to the Discalced Carmelites of Prague in 1628. When the city was sacked and the statue damaged, Fr. Cyril of the Mother of God found it and restored it. He reported that he heard the words, "The more you honor Me, the more I will bless you," and devotion to the Holy Infant spread across the world.
This prayer, traditionally attributed to Fr. Cyril, is prayed in any urgent need. It combines petition with sorrow for sin and a resolution to love God and neighbor. It is often prayed as a novena, on the 25th of each month in memory of the Nativity, and during the Christmas season.
The Prayer
O Infant Jesus, I have recourse to Thee and ask Thee, through Thy holy Mother, to help me in this necessity (mention your request), for I firmly believe that Thy Divinity can help me. I hope with confidence to obtain Thy holy grace. I love Thee with all my heart and with all the strength of my soul. I sincerely repent of my sins, and I beseech Thee, O good Jesus, to give me strength to overcome them. I resolve never more to offend Thee, and I offer myself to Thee, ready to suffer rather than displease Thee. Henceforth I wish to serve Thee faithfully, and for love of Thee, O Divine Child, I will love my neighbor as myself. O almighty Child, O Jesus, again I implore Thee to help me in this necessity. Grant me the grace to possess Thee eternally with Mary and Joseph, and to adore Thee with the holy angels in heaven. Amen.
