Prayer for Children

Every child is a gift from God, entrusted to parents for a time so they may raise them to know and love Him. This prayer asks God to watch over children with fatherly care, keep them from evil, and guide them by His Holy Spirit. It borrows the Gospel's description of the boy Jesus, who "advanced in wisdom, and age, and grace with God and men" (Luke 2:52), and asks the same for our own children.
Parents, grandparents, godparents, teachers, and catechists can pray it daily, at bedtime, on birthdays and baptismal anniversaries, at the start of a school year, and when a child is sick or struggling. You can also pray it for children who have wandered from the faith and for children who have no one to pray for them.
The Prayer
O God, Who hast given little children as a precious gift, watch over them with Thy fatherly care. Grant that they may grow in wisdom, age, and grace before Thee and men. Keep them from all evil, guide them by Thy Holy Spirit, and bring them safely to the joy of Thy kingdom. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
