Glory Be

The Glory Be, also called the Lesser Doxology, is a short hymn of praise to the Holy Trinity. Its first part goes back to the early Church's worship, and the line "As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be" was added in the West in the fourth century to affirm, against the Arian heresy, that the Son has always been equal to the Father.

The Glory Be closes each decade of the Rosary and every psalm in the Liturgy of the Hours, and it ends many other prayers and novenas. You can also pray it on its own, as the simplest act of praise, when you see something beautiful or receive a blessing. Many people bow their heads at the words "Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost."

Say it with a lifted heart whenever you want to give God simple, direct praise.

The Prayer

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
