Act of Faith

The Act of Faith is a short profession of the truths God has revealed: one God in three Persons, the Incarnation, and the redemption won by Jesus Christ. It is one of the traditional "acts" that Catholics have learned by heart since childhood. By praying it we assent to everything the Church teaches, not because we understand it all, but because God, who can neither deceive nor be deceived, has revealed it.

Pray it as part of your morning or evening prayers, before Mass, in times of doubt, or when your faith is challenged. It is also a good prayer for those preparing for the sacraments of initiation and for anyone returning to the Church. Together with the Acts of Hope and Love, it keeps the three theological virtues alive in daily prayer.

The Prayer

O my God, I firmly believe that Thou art one God in three Divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; I believe that Thy Divine Son became man, and died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because Thou hast revealed them, Who canst neither deceive nor be deceived. Amen.
