Prayer to St. Christopher, Patron of Travelers
St. Christopher is one of the most popular saints in the world, and his medal hangs in countless cars. He was a martyr of the third century, and his name means "Christ-bearer." According to the well-known legend, he was a giant who carried travelers across a dangerous river. One night he carried a child who grew heavier with every step, and the child revealed Himself as Christ, carrying the weight of the whole world.
Christopher is patron of travelers, drivers, and those in danger from storms and floods. Pray this before a road trip, flight, commute, or move, and for loved ones on the road. His traditional feast is July 25. The painting shown is of Tobias and the Archangel Raphael, another biblical image of God's protection on a journey.
The Prayer
O glorious St. Christopher, who didst bear the Christ Child on thy shoulders, protect all travelers from danger and accident. Watch over our journey today, bring us safely to our destination, and help us always to carry Christ to others. Amen. Let us pray. Grant, we beseech Thee, O almighty God, that we who celebrate the heavenly birthday of blessed Christopher, Thy Martyr, may by his intercession be strengthened in the love of Thy name. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
