Prayer to St. Aloysius Gonzaga

St. Aloysius Gonzaga (1568-1591) was the eldest son of an Italian noble family who gave up his inheritance to become a Jesuit. While studying in Rome, he cared for plague victims during the epidemic of 1591, caught the disease himself, and died at the age of twenty-three. Known for his purity, prayerfulness, and self-discipline, he was canonized in 1726 and later named patron of young people and of students. His feast is June 21.
This prayer asks St. Aloysius for purity of heart and the grace to serve God faithfully all our lives. Pray it for teenagers and students, for young people discerning a vocation, for those who care for the sick, and for yourself when you struggle with temptation. It is especially fitting on his feast day and before exams.
The Prayer
O blessed Aloysius, adorned with angelic virtues, I recommend to thee especially the chasteness of my soul and body. Obtain for me purity of heart and the grace to serve God faithfully all the days of my life. Amen.
